Astro Bot was the clear 2024 leader, but the chase answered in different ways depending on the award body. Astro Bot anchored the year with The Game Awards, BAFTA, D.I.C.E., and the New York Game Awards; Balatro gained its representative win at GDC, Black Myth: Wukong at Golden Joystick, and Metaphor: ReFantazio at NAVGTR. The runner-up tier therefore feels less like a normal second-place race and more like a multipolar split between a card-game phenomenon, an action blockbuster, and a JRPG.
